Over-the-Counter Products for Home Lawn Care

Many of these products can be found at local garden centers, hardware stores, nurseries and farm supply stores. Keep in mind that these stores may only carry a partial inventory of the products listed below. My best advice is to check on-line information about store locations or call your local stores for availability.

Bayer Advanced Lawn -- Triple Action Lawn Fertilizer plus Crabgrass Preventer II is offered in a 16 lb bag (5,000 square feet). It contains a 30-3-4 fertilizer with 0.28% Barricade (prodiamine) impregnated. It controls crabgrass, goosegrass, foxtails, fall panicum, barnyardgrass, henbit, knotweed, oxalis, pigweed, purslane and spurge as a pre-emergent.

Bayer Advanced Lawn -- Triple Action Lawn Fertilizer plus Weed Control is offered in 16 (5,000 square feet) and 48 lb bags (15,000 square feet). It contains a 30-3-4 fertilizer with 2,4-D, MCPP and dicamba. It controls dandelion, chickweed, clover and most common broadleaf weeds in lawns.

Bayer Advanced Lawn -- Fungus Control for Lawns is offered in 6 (up to 4,000 square feet) and 11.25 lb bags (up to 7,500 square feet). Active ingredient is a 1% Bayleton (triadimefon) granule. It prevents and cures common lawn diseases including brown patch, dollar spot, summer patch, red thread, powdery mildew and rust.

Bayer Advanced Lawn -- Season Long Grub Control is offered in 14.35 (up to 5,000 square feet) and 28.7 lb bags (up to 10,000 square feet). Active ingredient is a 0.2% Merit (imidacloprid) granule. One application kills grubs all season long. Can be applied from May through mid-August.

Bayer Advanced Lawn -- 24 HOUR Grub Control is offered in a 15 lb bag (up to 5,000 square feet). Active ingredient is a 6.2% Dylox (trichlorfon) granule. Works rapidly over night, degrades quickly -- short residual. Also kills sod webworm, mole crickets and cutworms.

Bayer Advanced Lawn -- POWER FORCE Multi-Insect Killer is offered in 10 (up to 5,000 square feet) and 20 lb bags (up to 10,000 square feet). Active ingredient is a 0.1% Tempo (cyfluthrin) granule. Kills lawn pests such as ants, fleas, ticks, cutworms, chinch bugs, mole crickets, armyworms, chiggers, billbug (adults), black turfgrass ataenius (adults) and sod webworm (lawn moths).

Scotts Halts Crabgrass Preventer is offered in a 10 lb bag (5,000 square feet). Active ingredient is a 1.71% pendimethalin granule. Controls crabgrass, foxtail and other annual grassy weeds along with several annual broadleaf weeds as a pre-emergent.

Scotts Super Turf Builder w/ Halts is offered in a 14 lb bag (5,000 square feet). It contains a 36-3-4 fertilizer with 1.29% pendimethalin impregnated. It controls crabgrass, foxtails and other annual grassy weeds along with several annual broadleaf weeds as a pre-emergent.

Scotts Lawn Weed Control is offered in a 5 lb bag (5,000 square feet). Active ingredient is 2.95% 2,4-D + 0.48% dicamba. It controls many broadleaf weeds in lawns. Should be applied when weed leaf tissue is wet with dew.

Scotts Super Turf Builder Plus 2 is offered in a 17 lb bag (5,000 square feet). It contains a 30-3-3 fertilizer with 1% 2,4-D + 1% MCPP impregnated. It controls many broadleaf weeds in lawns. Should be applied when weed leaf tissue is wet with dew.

Scotts Lawn Fungus Control is offered in a 10.35 lb bag (7,400 square feet). Active ingredient is a 2.3% Fungo (thiophanate-methyl) granule. It controls brown patch, dollar spot, and other common lawn diseases. It suppresses summer patch.

Scotts Grub-EX Season Long Grub Control is offered in an 11.5 lb bag (5,000 square feet). Active ingredient is a 1.5% Mach 2 (halofenozide) granule. Controls white grubs early before they cause damage. Controls armyworms, cutworms and sod webworms as well.

Scotts Diazinon Lawn Insect Control is offered in a 10.10 lb bag (5,000 square feet). Active ingredient is a 4.54% diazinon granule. Controls white grubs in a short amount of time with a short residual.

Scotts Moss Control Granules is offered in an 18.7 lb bag (up to 5,000 square feet). Active ingredient is a 17.5% ferrous sulfate granule. Apply during winter or spring when moss is actively growing. Fast, thorough control of moss in a few days.

Ortho Weed-B-Gon Crabgrass Killer is offered in several formulations (concentrate and RTU's) in a 1-pint bottle. Active ingredient is a 8.4% solution of calcium acid Methanearsonate. It controls seedling and mature crabgrass, dallisgrass, nutgrass, barnyardgrass, foxtail and many other grassy weeds.

Ortho Weed-B-Gon Weed Killer for Lawns is offered in several formulations (concentrate, RTU's, Hose Applicators, etc) and sizes (1 quart, 1/2 gallon and 1 gallon). Active ingredient contains 3.05% 2,4-D, 10.6% MCPP and 1.30% dicamba. Controls over 80 broadleaf weeds such as dandelions, clover, chickweed, oxalis, spurge, henbit, wild onion and plantain.

Ortho Lawn Disease Control is offered in a 32 fl oz ready-to-use system. Active ingredient is a 1.55% solution of Banner (propiconazole). Prevents and cures many major lawn diseases.

Ortho Bug-B-Gon Multi-purpose Insect Killer is offered in a 8.8 lb bag (up to 4,000 square feet). This product is also offered in a 0.75 and 3.5 lb canister. Active ingredient is a 6.3% Sevin (carbaryl) granule. It controls white grubs, ants, armyworms, chinch bugs, cutworms, sod webworm (lawn moths), chigger, fleas and ticks.

Club Green Crabgrass Preventer is a 22-4-5 fertilizer containing 0.086% Dimension (dithiopyr) covering 5,000 square feet.

Club Green Weed & Feed is a 24-4-12 fertilizer containing Trimec (0.65% 2,4-D + 0.31% MCPA + 0.072% dicamba). It is offered in a 18 lb bag covering 5,000 square feet.
